Where Does Blushwood Berry Come From? The Rainforest Behind EBC-46
The Australian Rainforest Behind EBC-46
Not every plant can grow just anywhere.
Blushwood Berry is one of the clearest examples of that.
The tree that produces it, Fontainea picrosperma, is native to a narrow stretch of tropical rainforest in Far North Queensland, Australia. This region is home to some of the oldest and most biodiverse rainforest on earth. Its humidity, dense canopy, and unique soil conditions help create the natural environment where this tree grows.
That matters.
Blushwood Berry is rare because it comes from a very specific place. That same rarity is one of the reasons it took researchers years to study it seriously, and why quality sourcing matters so much in this category.
The Tree
Fontainea picrosperma is an endemic rainforest tree from Far North Queensland that grows in shaded understory habitats, and its fruit has a distinctive red-purple color that inspired the common name Blushwood Berry.
The Research
Scientific interest in Blushwood Berry grew in the 2000s and 2010s, largely through research conducted at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Queensland, Australia. Researchers there were studying plant compounds with potential cellular applications.
One compound identified through that work was EBC-46, chemically known as tigilanol tiglate. EBC-46 is a tigliane-type diterpene ester, a class of plant compounds found in the Euphorbiaceae family.
Researchers found that EBC-46 produced a rapid, localized cellular response. That discovery led to continued scientific interest and further research.
This research eventually contributed to the development of Stelfonta, an injectable veterinary drug containing tigilanol tiglate. Stelfonta received FDA approval in 2020 for the treatment of mast cell tumors in dogs. It is a prescription drug administered by a veterinarian directly into tumors.
Stelfonta is not the same as an oral or topical Blushwood Berry supplement.
But its approval does show something important: EBC-46 is a documented compound with peer-reviewed research behind it and a traceable regulatory history. It is not a wellness trend created for marketing.
From Rainforest to Supplement
The raw ingredient must be harvested responsibly, extracted in a way that preserves the active compound, tested for purity, and formulated into a stable finished product.
Aussie Pure sources its Blushwood Berry raw ingredient from Australia and manufactures its products in the United States.
Every batch of raw ingredient is third-party tested by an independent lab. Testing includes pesticide residue and heavy metals, including arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.
The most recent results returned non-detected across all categories. View our most recent Certificate of Analysis here.
Aussie Pure uses a fruit and seed extract, sourcing from the whole plant rather than one isolated part. Research on EBC-46 has examined compounds present across the plant, and using both fruit and seed supports a full-spectrum extraction approach.
Why Origin Matters
When a plant grows naturally in only one specific part of the world, and that region is remote, the supply chain is limited and fragile.
That is why quality differences between Blushwood Berry products often come back to sourcing decisions.
What part of the plant was used?
How was the extract processed?
What concentration of active compound does the finished ingredient actually contain?
That is why two Blushwood Berry products are not always the same.
The Bottom Line
Blushwood Berry is not a manufactured wellness trend.
It is a real plant from a specific region of Australia. It contains a compound that has been studied in peer-reviewed research and has a documented path through regulatory science.
What you choose to do with that information depends on your own health goals and the guidance of your healthcare provider.
Aussie Pure’s role is to make sure the product on your shelf is as close to the source as the supply chain allows: properly sourced, third-party tested, and honestly represented.
